Rowan Cottage - Sheriffhales
Rowan Cottage is a quaint Duke Of Sutherland cottage in Sheriffhales, deep in the rolling countryside of the Shropshire/Staffordshire border. Built around 1850, the cottage has retained all of the charm and character of the period, whilst offering high levels of comfort and modern convenience.
Sheriffhales is a scattered village of just 100 residents, with the origins of its name derived from "sheriff's corner of land". The village maintains a peaceful, timeless charm with several fine half-timbered houses.
The Parish Church is dedicated to St Mary, and close by is Sheriffhales Manor where, in the 17th Century, was established a college for Roman Catholics and Nonconformists.
The cottage sleeps 4 adults in two spacious, double-bedded rooms. Families with children are welcome, although we are unfortunately unable to cater for pets - and we have a strict no smoking policy.
The cottage is beamed on both floors, with the bedrooms having characterful sloping ceilings and low windows overlooking beautiful gardens. The doors are the original wooden latched-style, one of which leads to the winding staircase.
The kitchen is modern - but with an original old range as a feature - and has everything needed for a comfortable stay, including washing machine and tumble dryer. Leading from the kitchen is a large, airy dining room complete with sofa and French doors onto the sunny terrace beyond.
There are two good-size living rooms with open fires, one of which has an inglenook fireplace, but full central heating provides hot water and heat all year round.
Beautiful rear gardens allow for a sun-trapped breakfast al fresco or barbeques in the evening. To the front of the cottage, a seating area provides a view over the rolling countryside, as well as ample parking for several cars.
Towels, bed linen, and tea towels are provided together with complimentary toiletries and a welcome pack in the kitchen - including tea/coffee/sugar/milk/biscuits - to get your holiday off to a stress-free start.
